Have you recently passed by The Waterfall at The Dubai Mall and noticed one of the divers wearing an all-too-familiar superhero costume? It’s not hard to guess who it is.
A pearl diver has donned the Deadpool costume in time for the release of much-anticipated sequel, Deadpool 2. Does this mean that diver was the merc with a mouth all along? We wonder.
The publicity stunt has gained loads of attention online, with actor Ryan Reynolds re-posting the shot on his Instagram saying “this is incredible.” Yes it is Ryan, yes it is.
The film has been getting raving reviews from critics and audiences, getting 83 percent certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. We here at Time Out Dubai absolutely loved it. Check out what we had to say.
This isn’t the first marketing stunt pulled by the team behind the movie, as Reynolds has mimicked the painting show with Bob Ross in one of the first trailers, along with apologising to David Beckham for an insult in the first movie.
The Waterfall, a 24-metre tall water feature, opened almost a decade ago (2009), and was designed by Singapore-based DPA Architects.
At the time, General Manager of Dubai Mall Mr Yousif Al Ali said: “These highlight the historic preference of the region for aesthetic water features, and add to the appeal of the mall as a family destination.”
Now, Deadpool has come in his usual arrogant manner and ruined it all. We joke of course –seeing the hero in red spandex always brightens our day.
Just outside The Dubai Mall, there are plenty of other art pieces to look at, including ‘1.78,’ a giant suspended sculpture by renowned American artist Janet Echelman to ogle at.
