Hike through the snow at Ski Dubai

The free event is hosted by Gulf for Good

Need an excuse to get your legs pumping and feel an icy breeze this summer? Then this climbing event is just for you.

Gulf For Good (G4G) is setting up a snow hike at Ski Dubai for mountaineers and fitness enthusiasts.

The free event will take place on Friday June 8 in Mall of the Emirates. It will be an early start since the trek kicks off at 8am, but a morning with cool temperatures during this sweltering season is time well spent.

The session encourages people to test out their gear (hiking boots, poles) and to exercise the legs and lungs in colder climates.

The indoor ski area features an 85-metre-high slope with five runs of varying steepness and difficulty, so be prepared to work up a frozen sweat.

Warning: it’s a slippery pursuit, so wear hiking boots if you own a pair. If not, at least shoes that have the some strong grip, or your snow hike will likely turn into a snow slide.

Bring hiking poles if you have them, plus water, comfortable trousers (no jeans), a hat, gloves and layers of clothing to keep you warm from Ski Dubai’s -2ºC temperatures.

Gulf For Good is a non-profit organisation that operates under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum.

It has the aim of helping people in the Gulf to challenge themselves and do something unusual. This event definitely makes the cut.

To book your spot, email Jill at fitness@gulf4good.org or call Jen on 04 368 0222 before 11am on Thursday 7 June.

Speaking of fitness, the next day on Saturday June 9 is Global Wellness Day, and The Westin Al Habtoor City has a range of activities on that are also free of charge.

Get ready for some Vertical Limit action, although we're sure it won't be as dangerous as the film.

Free. Friday Jun 8 8am-9am. Mall of the Emirates, Al Barsha (04 368 0222).
