Dubai is one of the world’s top 10 cities for expats

Emirate beats destinations including Madrid, Hong Kong and Washington DC

Around Town

It's official – Dubai is one of the top ten cities people would move to for work.

According to experts at Boston Consulting Group, the emirate is more popular than destinations including Madrid, Toronto and Washington D.C..

Dubai ranked sixth in the survey of 366,000 workers, also putting it above Singapore, Hong Kong and Rome.

That means it's the only Middle Eastern city in the top ten – and we can see why, considering all the incredible things to do in this city.

Not only do we have miles and miles of beautiful beaches – as well as a real snow ski slope and everything from escape rooms to golf – but there are also hundreds of amazing restaurants and bars to visit.

Luckily, we here at Time Out Dubai have plenty of recommendations – so subscribe to our vlogs and podcasts for all the latest from across the city.

Mike Booker, co-author of the report, said: “Dubai (the most populous city in the UAE) is now a top ten city work destination, and Abu Dhabi has moved sharply up the rankings too.”

And Dubai is not the only city in the UAE that ranked highly, with Abu Dhabi coming in at 14th and moving into the top 30 for the first time.

In May, our city wiped the floor with the likes of London, Paris and New York in terms of quality of life.

The cities were graded on eight measurements including quality of healthcare, cost of consumer goods and housing affordability, which was measured by the ratio of property price to income.

Throw in year-round sunshine, amazing restaurants, glorious beaches and top nightlife and it’s no wonder that Dubai ranked so highly.

Other factors considered included safety, climate and traffic, and each city’s cost of living was calculated using prices for consumer goods, groceries and rent.
