As part of this year’s roster of events taking place down at the Al Bastakiya District, The Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) has teamed up with the London-based Delfina Foundation, Dubai’s Tashkeel and Art Dubai, with the support of the British Council, to host an international artists-in-residence programme.
Located at House 44 in the Creekside complex of Al Bastakiya, a temporarily renovated 10-room (plus courtyard) building will be transformed into a live-and-work space for two international artists, Iranian-Canadian Abbas Akhavan and Tobias Collier from the UK.
The eight-week residency programme, which began in February, links the guest artists with Emirati artists Hind Bin Demaithan, Shaikha Al Mazrou, and Shamma Al Amri. Working together, the five have been independently creating fascinating, site-specific artforms spanning visual art and performance.
In addition, Abbas Akhavan has been commissioned to create a site-specific work for Art Dubai Projects. All the artworks will be displayed at House 44, which will open to the public between March 13 to 20 – and a series of events will take place around House 44’s public opening, including an exhibition of artworks from current and previous Delfina artists, as well as artist-talks and other programmes.
