Take one of the region’s biggest collections of contemporary Iranian art, team it with the internationally-acclaimed hero of contemporary Iranian art Farhad Moshiri and you have ‘Love Is Not Everything’, the first-ever career-spanning retrospective of Moshiri’s career, sourced from Dr Farhad Farjam, one of Moshiri’s oldest collectors.
It’s no exaggeration to say that Moshiri is one of the best-known Middle Eastern artists of recent times. And a visit to this show will give you an understanding for why this is the case. Having spent much of the past 20 years crafting work in his trademark sharp, funny, pointed and ironic manner, Moshiri’s explorations of the spaces between traditional Persian cultural expression and the glorious gaudiness of modern pop culture makes for thrilling results.
Having been collecting Moshiri’s work since the outset of his career, Farhad Farjam’s private collection is a treasure trove of delights, featuring numerous key Moshiri works. From his famous traditional jars covered with pop lyrics, to his lavishly-textured cake paintings and the high flying ‘glitter’ canvases, this is a spectacular trawl through the work of a genuine trailblazer of contemporary art.
