Observe a crescent moon with the Dubai Astronomy group

What do you mean you’ve never seen a meteor shower? Surely you’ve seen a shooting star then? No? You need to check out the Dubai Astronomy Group. Despite being one of the city’s better organized and friendlier social groups there remains hundreds of thousands of Dubai residents that have never even heard of the star-gazing scientists. Don’t expect anything too techy (although we defy anybody to attend one of the talks and not start saving for their own telescope) but rather a memorable view of the night skies. Regular trips out of the centre of Dubai to a permanent desert home mean the view of the sky is far better than anything you’ll experience from inside the city. The atmosphere is more akin to a music festival than a scientific lecture, although more experienced astronomers are on hand to give advice and information.
Dubai Astronomy Group runs regular stargazing outings to the desert. For info, call Hasan on 050 624 6172, email hasan@dubaiastronomy.com or see www.dubaiastronomy.com. For more information about stargazing and astronomy in Dubai click here.
