Walk the winding streets of Bastakiya

It is hard to know what is genuinely old and what is tastefully rebuilt and re-enacted in Dubai’s Bastakiyah neighbourhood. The Dubai Museum and Al Fahidi Fort are both historic sites with little embellishment much of the surrounding areas are only a few years old. Don’t let the lack of history cloud your views of the authenticity, however, a stroll around Bastakiyah is as close to life in old Dubai as you are likely to experience. A myriad of tiny cultural attractions include coin museums, regular falcon and camels displays as well as a mazy streets that are as much of a delight to explore as the attractions housed there.
Start (and finish) at the XVA Café. Open Saturday-Thursday 9am-7pm; Friday 10am-5pm. Al Fahidi Street, Bur Dubai. (04 353 5383).
