What: Dubai World Cup Jaguar Style Stakes media preview.
Where: Meydan Racecourse.
When: Sunday February 17.
Luxury car brand Jaguar has been involved with the Dubai World Cup best-dressed competitions for the past four years, so I was intrigued to see this preview and hear more about the prizes. The panel of judges was presenting stylist Mandi Kingsbury’s race-day fashion predictions, while giving tips on what the panel would be looking for at this year’s Jaguar Style Stakes, taking place on Saturday March 30 at Dubai World Cup.
Australian Fashion Week founder Simon Lock shared an interesting new tip: men look more fashionable if they don’t wear socks. I admit I liked his black furry shoes, and they did look kind of cool without socks. The fashion show was elegant and included full-length options appropriate for the region, as well as khanduras.
Prizes for the best-dressed racegoers at the World Cup range from a Jaguar XK Coupe car for a year to spa packages and hotel trips. Definitely worth making a huge effort for – no wonder everyone was preparing already. I got to catch up with Mandi, who was wearing a customised turban-like hat: she told me she would be designing the wardrobe for the Jaguar Style Stakes models who would be presenting the newest Jaguar car at the races.
We finally stopped chatting and, after dinner, we were invited to enjoy the races. Afterwards I couldn’t wait to get inking.
