Out and about with Hatty Pedder

Dubai-based artist attends a show at the Mojo gallery

1/2

Artist Hatty Pedder shares her latest blog illustrations, inspired by Dubai’s creative scene

What: ‘Meta White, A Tranquil Force’ art exhibition.
Where: Mojo Gallery, Alserkal Avenue, Al Quoz.
When: Wednesday May 8.

We saw: German artist Udo Rutschmann and Moroccan artist Safaa Erruas’s work. Their styles were extremely different but united through their use of a monochrome palette. Udo’s work interrogates and exposes the unpredictable and transformational forces of time and energy. Safaa’s work, on the other hand, explores the complexities of society and its underlying polarity.

The vibe: Relaxed, arty and chilled.

The guests: The crowd was a diverse spectrum of arty types, socialites and style mavens, and I spotted Ali Azarmi, managing partner of Joy Films ME, who became my inking subject.

The dress: Attendees turned up in a really vibrant mix of styles. There were flashes of neon, metallic, leathers, Chanel, tattoos and I even spotted a man with red furry shoes.

Best overheard statement of the event: ‘That looks like a chakra – I want it!’ Anonymous.
