1 Your photographs are on display at d3 until Wednesday April 6. What can we expect?
A selection of never-seen-before photos from my collection, which includes the Fugees, Nas and Crazy Legs.
2 What camera do you use?
The older photographs were taken with a Leica, the new ones are taken with a Canon.
3 You’ve worked with hip-hop greats. Any crazy stories?
I worked with Snoop Dogg on his first music video and we had to stop filming because a shoot-out occurred owing to gang war. I was running with Fab 5 Freddy who was shouting at me to get into the car. I was still taking pictures while running.
4 Who did you most enjoy working with?
Being in the recording session of Nas’ first album Illmatic was something special. Q-Tip, Premiere and Large Professor were there too – it was pretty magical. You could feel something happening and as we know, it’s one of the greatest hip-hop albums ever recorded.
5 What makes a great photograph?
When a photo tells a story and conveys emotion.
