He’s photographed the likes of supermodel Kate Moss and Rolling Stone rockers Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, and now Mario Testino is to host his first exhibition in Dubai.
The 61-year-old makes his Middle East introduction when his spring exhibition Heat opens at Dubai Design District (D3), a very apt name for his desert debut.
Taking place in a pop-up gallery from February 25-April 15, the household name in fashion can be expected to make an appearance when he teams up with UAE-based GINZA Fashion (Simon and Michaela de Pury, of de Pury de Pury) for the project.
And the Peruvian star couldn’t be more excited to show his work in the region.
“I am so excited that my work will be exhibited in the Middle East, in Dubai, for the first time,” he said. “My endless curiosity has contributed to the diversity of my work, and this curiosity extends to the different cultures, people and places I have explored throughout my career.
“Looking at this exhibition I feel you see this and Dubai is a perfect place to present it with its constantly evolving creativity. I am eager to see and experience the impact that Dubai will make on my work.”
Testino – who has shot famous faces including Naomi Campbell, Gisele Bündchen, Natalia Vodianova and Cara Delevingne – is often referred to as the most successful photographer alive.
Many of the pieces featuring in Heat have been on display at art galleries and museums across the globe, including London’s National Portrait Gallery, giving locals and expats alike better access to the world’s art talent.
His exhibition coincides with Art Dubai, running March 16-19, meaning it’s likely to pull in visitors from across the planet.
