With the BBC Proms Dubai taking place at Dubai Opera this week, we’ve got an awesome vid to get you in the mood.
Dubai Opera has put together this time-lapse video of the auditorium being transformed from a 2,000-seat arena to a 2,000sq m floor space. This transformation brings with it a huge, flexible space for a 1,000 guest gala dinner, weddings, fashion shows, exhibitions and other social events.
The Dubai Opera opened just six months ago and this week will host the export of the BBC’s Proms. A hallmark of the British music summer, the Proms have provided affordable access for everyone to enjoy not just classical music, but classic music of many forms. As Time Out Dubai covered in its recent Proms preview, last year’s BBC Proms in London saw an evening dedicated to the works of legendary jazz and funk producer Quincy Jones.
This week’s Proms represent only the second time the BBC has hosted the event outside of the UK, and will be bringing regional influences to the four day programme. Expect to see performances of Elgar, Debussy and Shostakovich, among others, by the BBC Symphony Orchestra; as well as Handel’s “Zadok the Priest” for the Last Night of The Proms.
