Brand-new improv night comes to Dubai

Rove Hotels hosts city’s first improv theatre night, starting August 17

Dubai will soon see the arrival of a brand-new improvisational theatre and comedy night, with the pending launch of This is Impro’ at Rove Hotels across the city, starting with Rove Downtown on Thursday August 17.

With Dubai’s live theatre and comedy scene continuing to grow, The Courtyard Playhouse Company is one of the biggest groups in Dubai, with weekly grassroots comedy nights, acting and – most relevantly – improv workshops. The playhouse runs a range of local theatre and comedy nights, plus regular live streams of shows from London’s National Theatre.

Now, Dubai is getting another improv night, as August will see the arrival of This is Impro’, the city’s first and only dedicated improvisation theatre night. Starting on Thursday August 17, top improv actors from the Courtyard Playhouse Company will be putting on two shows a night, and everything is totally unrehearsed, unscripted and simply improvised – so anything could happen.

Expect fun and laughter as the actors create, on the spot, the plot, characters and dialogue of a story – with some suggestions coming from the audience. The night will rotate on a monthly basis across multiple Rove hotels across the city, with each show taking place on the third Thursday of each month. Rove Downtown will play host to the first show when it kicks off on August 17, with Rove Healthcare City in September, Rove Trade Centre in October and Rove City Centre in November.

Free. Thu Aug 17, 8pm. Rove Hotels, various locations including Downtown, Healthcare City and DWTC,
