Moscow City Ballet to perform Romeo and Juliet at Dubai Opera

Word-famous ballet company coming to Dubai in 2018

Ladies and gents, listen up, we have some exciting news for your ears.

Dubai Opera, in partnership with Van Cleef & Arpels, present the Moscow City Ballet and Orchestra on stage to perform the much-loved Shakespeare classic Romeo and Juliet from Thursday April 19 to Saturday 21, 2018.

The world-famous ballet company will deliver three spectacular performances of Shakespeare’s enduring, famous love story and tragedy, which tells the tale of those star-crossed lovers and their warring families.

Coming from acclaimed Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev and staged by Victor Smirnov Golovanov (who also founded the Moscow City Ballet), this production is set in Renaissance Italy. Golovanov’s powerful interpretation combined with Prokofiev’s emotive score make for a truly dazzling stage show. You really won’t want to miss it.

Expect a stunning performance from outstanding principals and soloists including Yulia Zhuravleva who plays Juliet and Dmitry Lazovik who stars as Romeo. Enhanced by an impressive live orchestra, this promises to simply blow you away. The sword fights are dramatic, the death scenes haunting, the entire production mesmerising.

The Moscow City Ballet is renowned for their precision and attention to detail. As one of Russia’s most extensively toured companies, they have performed at iconic venues across the world and Dubai Opera is next on their list.

Jasper Hope, chief executive of Dubai Opera said: “I am so looking forward to enjoying the world’s greatest love story performed by a great Russian ballet company and a fantastic live orchestra in the splendour and intimacy of Dubai Opera. From the moment they meet to their tragic final embrace, Shakespeare’s story of Romeo and Juliet accompanied by Prokofiev’s score is a favourite with audiences young and old around the world.”
