Huge Sotheby’s exhibition coming to Dubai

Public viewings on October 10-12 ahead of multi-million dirham auction in London

ART & CULTURE

Fans of historical art are in for a treat, as globally renowned auction house Sotheby’s is bringing an exhibition highlighting its upcoming auction calendar to Dubai.

Between Tuesday October 10 and Thursday 12, you will have the chance to get up close to some of the most highly sought-after pieces by celebrated artists from the region, alongside a range of historically important pieces.

The exhibition, being hosted at Sotheby’s Dubai in DIFC, is a primer event to a series of auctions taking place in London later this month and in November. Selling and non-selling exhibitions are hosted around the year, but these pieces are being presented with a view towards the upcoming auctions in the UK, and will cover the following subjects:

  • Exceptional modern and contemporary masterpieces from the Middle East
  • A glimpse of the personal collection of Howard Hodgkin
  • Rare and historical objects from the Islamic World
  • Exquisite jewels from highly coveted designs and illustrious provenance
  • Magnificent illustrations of falconry from an esteemed library

Notably pricey jewels on display include the 45.74-carat Important Burmese Sapphire and Diamond Ring by Van Cleef & Arpels, which has an estimated value of between US$700,000 and US$900,000 (Dhs2.57 million to Dhs3.3 million).

Meanwhile, a pair of 10.5 and 10.51-carat flawless diamond earrings will be on display, with an estimated value of US$2,100,000 to US$3,100,000 (Dhs7.7 million to Dhs11.4 million).

This is your chance to view some of the brilliant pieces on display, ahead of auctions in the UK on October 23-25 and again on November 2. For information on how to participate in the auctions remotely, visit www.sothebys.com.
