Russell Watson coming to Dubai in 2018

Legendary opera singer performing at Madinat Theatre in January

We ran out of fingers a long time ago trying to count the massive acts coming to the UAE before the end of 2017. Gorillaz – check. Ed Sheeran – check. Jennifer Lopez – check. Take That – check. Elton John – check. Calvin Harris – check. Mumford & Sons – check. You get the picture.

2018 is going to be kicking off in rip-roaring style too, across music, comedy and the arts. At the start of January we’ll have comedy megastar Chris Rock leading two nights at the Dubai World Trade Centre, with an Avatar-themed Cirque du Soleil following soon after. Meanwhile, iconic opera singer Russell Watson has confirmed he will be performing in Dubai at the end of January in 2018 at the Madinat Theatre.

Taking place on Friday January 26, Russell Watson: Up Close and Personal will be performing a selection of songs from his albums, together with a selection of hits from a career which has seen him perform to Queen Elizabeth II, The Pope and to two US presidents.

Watson has sold more than 7 million albums around the world, with his discography including breakout album The Voice in 2001, which featured this interpretation of Simon and Garfunkel classic Bridge Over Troubled Water:

A discography of ten studio albums and four compilation albums includes an array of acclaimed musical performances which has seen him become widely heralded as one of the top singers of his generation - with many pop influences and songs also in his repertoire.

It was a succession of performances at sporting events in 1999 which propelled Watson to the limelight, most notably a full set of songs at the 1999 Champions League Final in Barcelona between Manchester United and Bayern Munich. If you’re lucky, Watson may even perform this classic piece:

This is one of the concerts coming in early 2018 that we’re already excited for, and tickets are available now from 800Tickets.
