World music workshops and concert coming to Sharjah

Sharjah Art Foundation to host week of workshops on the art of composition

This November, Sharjah Art Foundation will be launching a dedicated music programme to help budding musicians explore the arts under the guidance of resident experts.

Hailing from Algeria, Ghana, Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast, El Foukr R’Assembly is a band with a truly global experience. Having formed in 2014 in Algeria, the band recorded their first EP before moving to Ghana to product their second record in Accra in 2015 during a three-week stay paid for by a successful online crowd-funding campaign.

The band then moved to the US to take up a residency on the East Coast hosting concerts and workshops between New York and Philadelphia and in 2016 and now reside in Ivory Coast. They will be heading to Sharjah for the festival to host an array of workshops between Monday November 13 and Saturday 18 on how to effectively compose music and tell stories through the medium.

At the end of the workshop programme, El Foukr R’Assembly will be hosting their first UAE concert at 7.30pm on Saturday November 18 at Mirage City Cinema in Al Mureijah Square.

By registering for the series of workshops, you can choose to take part in the following classes:

  • Workshop for Musicians, Composers and Writers – November 13-17
  • The Many We – Storytelling and Oral Traditions – Wednesday November 15
  • Conceiving and Producing Artistic Projects – Fundraising, Dissemination and Sustainability – Thursday November 16
