Award-winning theatre show New Electric Ballroom is coming to Dubai this weekend (Thursday February 22- Saturday February 24), promising dark comedy, family drama, and a whole lot of mystery.

The play is written by Tony Award winning author of the musical Once, Enda Walsh, and the show won the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2008. It was written as a companion piece to his play The Walworth Farce, and has been performed in theatres all over the UK since.

The fable is playing at The Courtyard Playhouse in Al Quoz from February 22 until February 24 and tells the tale of the sisters Breda and Clara’s visit to the New Electric Ballroom dance hall decades earlier to hear a crooner named Roller Royle.

Since then, they’ve been hermits in their Irish coastal town and the story is told from Breda, Clara and their sister Ada’s perspective.

It is presented in the city by local award winning theatre group Danú Dubai and is directed and produced by Irishman Padraig Downey.

We can’t wait for some light to be shed on the mysterious establishment.

Attendance is free, though donation is encouraged, and you can reserve your seat (over 13s only) at courtyardplayhouse.com/events.
Free. Feb 22-24, 9pm; matinee Feb 24, 4,30pm. The Courtyard Playhouse, Al Quoz (050 986 1761).
