ART & CULTURE, Theatre

All aboard! Taj Express will be bringing a celebration of Bollywood to the Dubai Opera stage from Tuesday October 16 to Saturday20. Be prepared for plenty of “Jai Ho”.

The performance from India will have songs from A.R. Rahman, the man behind the soundtrack of Oscar-winning movie Slumdog Millionaire.

Dubai Opera will host seven performances over five days, including two matinees and five evening shows.

Taj Express is inspired by the world-famous Indian film industry and tells the Bollywood story of one man’s passion and another man’s genius.

It follows budding composer Shankar as he struggles to create his first score, only to find that each of the numbers he composes materialises before his eyes.

The musical is told through a fusion of film, dance and music.

The performance will feature the biggest blockbuster hits from Bollywood including music by Monty Sharma, Abhijit Vaghan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

The production is choreographed by Vaibhavi Merchant and directed by Shruti Merchant, along with the title track composed by Salim Merchant and Sulaiman Merchant.

Jasper Hope, Chief Executive at Dubai Opera, said: “This show has been a dazzling international sensation and is the epitome of all things Bollywood, mixing film, dance, and music by some of India and Bollywood’s greatest names. Climb aboard the Taj Express because this is going to be one of the shows of the year.”

Tickets go on sale at 9am tomorrow (Monday March 19), with special early-bird tickets available until Monday April 2. Taj Express will celebrate Bollywood’s music and dance this October.

If you fancy a bite to eat after all that Jai Ho-ing, Sean Connolly is an ideal treat.
