There’s a new pop art show in town, and if you know and love those famous Andy Warhol prints or lithographs of Marilyn Monroe, you’ll definitely want to check it out.
Artist Julian Castaldi has a display of works on show today (Wednesday April 25) at D.tales on Jumeirah Beach Road. Entitled An Evening With Julian Castaldi, the show includes paintings and photography, which will be on display at the store from 3pm.
Castaldi’s work is heavily influenced by his residency in Los Angeles and on the West Coast of the US in the early ’90s, and more recently by Middle Eastern Pop Art styles and pop culture.
Artists who follow this movement generally focus on objects or even people popular in mass culture and use different techniques, such as those popularly employed by the advertising industry, to invoke the power of the image to both celebrate it and criticise it at the same time.
Such techniques can be seen in Castaldi’s work, which takes iconic, flamboyant and instantly recognisable figures from the worlds of art, fashion and music, and depicts these in print in a way you’ve not seen before, using strong patterns and bold, contrasting colours to make you stop, look and take stock.
This is a cool new show featuring a collection of works with an interesting message about popular culture and pop art styles.
Head down to D.tales to see it for yourself. We’re sure you’ll like what you see, and when you do, it can be yours for keeps, since all pieces are available to purchase, too.
