Expected to be the biggest event to ever be held in the region, Expo 2020 is officially just two years away on Saturday October 20. And to celebrate the countdown, Dubai is giving us a little glimpse with a huge event.
Taking place at Burj Park, the city is going all out with a public celebration of the two-year countdown, with a display on the Burj Khalifa at 8.20pm to mark the milestone moment.
The event will feature a specially choreographed show of The Dubai Fountain just for the occasion, too, which will also be at 8.20pm.
The whole celebration kicks off at 5pm and runs through until 10pm. All visitors can arrive through an intriguingly illuminated entrance called the “Bridge of Moments”, which we’re sure will be perfect for that Insta-snap.
After crossing the bridge, visitors can explore the five specially set up zones – with each of them giving a glimpse of the Expo 2020 Dubai experience, showcasing its theme of “connecting minds, creating the future”.
What can you expect in these zones? Contemporary art exhibits, food outlets whipping up international food, live music performances and world dance, along with the opportunity to sign up as an Expo 2020 volunteer.
All the excitement is for a reason, as Expo 2020 Dubai will be the first world expo to be held in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA) region – running from 20 October, 2020 to 10 April, 2021.
It is expected to attract a whopping 25 million visits, with 70 per cent of visitors projected to come from outside the UAE, which is the largest proportion of international visitors in the 167-year history of World Expos.
Dubai has also announced that New Year's Eve fireworks are returning to the Burj Khalifa on well, December 31 of course.
Needless to say, we can’t wait, so it’s a good thing this celebration will keep us satisfied in the meantime.
Free entry. Sat Oct 20, 5pm-10pm; Burj Khalifa/The Dubai Fountain show: 8.20pm onwards. Burj Park, Downtown Dubai, www.expo2020dubai.com.
