This Dubai Marina classic won a highly commended award at the Time Out Dubai Music & Nightlife Awards for its view, and if you’ve ever visited this swanky pan-Asian restaurant-meets-bar, then you’ll know why. Popular among tourists, thanks in part to its popularity among residents, this bar continues to draw in crowds. Take a seat, grab some edamame and a mixed drink and gaze over the Marina for countless hours.
Open Sat-Wed 4pm-1am; Thu-Fri 4pm-2am. Pier 7, Dubai Marina (04 276 5900).
HEAD FOR HEIGHTS
Obviously. How could we not include the world’s loftiest bar, sat inside, of course, the world’s tallest tower? This bar has such a magnificently superior view that it actually makes the rest of the world look kind of flat – sort of like looking out of a plane window. Despite its plush interior, you’re more likely to spend your time gawking out over the city. Thankfully for many an acrophobiac, there’s no outdoor terrace here, unsurprisingly.
Open daily 7am-11am, 12.30pm-3pm, 6pm-11pm. Burj Khalifa, Downtown Dubai (04 888 3828).
No surprises for guessing which floor this classy drinking spot is located on. Spoiler alert, it’s on the 44th floor of Grosvenor House in Dubai Marina. This bar has a cavernous feel to go alongside its elegant and long-established presence on the Dubai nightlife scene. Try not to spend the whole evening with your face smooshed against the glass, the view may well just encourage you to do so.
O Open Fri-Wed 5.30pm-2.30am; Thu 5.30pm-3am. Grosvenor House Dubai, Dubai Marina (04 317 6000).
Cielo Sky Lounge
Another highly commended award winner at the Time Out Dubai Music & Nightlife Awards in 2018, and this spot on Dubai Creek is simply hard to beat. The reason? Well, for all of Dubai’s ever-changing visual landscape, Cielo sits on the bank of the Creek, offering up consistently awe-inspiring views with consummate ease. As the sun sets, this place comes into its own – particularly if you’re gazing at a broken cloud sunset.
Open Sat-Thu 6pm-2am; Fri noon-3am. Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club, Deira (04 416 1800).
THE BEST IN TOWN
folly by Nick & Scott
According to Time Out Dubai, there is no better spot in the city for a view than this humble, and simply gorgeous, little spot in Souk Madinat Jumeirah. Just take a look at that picturesque setting (left), with the Burj Al Arab Jumeirah, and tell us you don’t want to instantly leg it down for a sundowner.
Bar open daily 3pm-1.30am. Souk Madinat Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim (04 430 8535).
A MIDAS TOUCH
Gold on 27
This glitzy bar (as the name might suggest) is one of the city’s most luxurious. And its location isn’t bad either. Found within the world-famous Burj Al Arab Jumeirah, gold drapes across every surface of this special spot. Make sure you dress accordingly to fit in with the décor, and get ready to take in some lovely views. A bar fitting of classic Bond villain Goldfinger himself.
Open daily 6pm-1am. Burj Al Arab Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim (04 301 7600).
FACE THE MUSIC
This is one of our favourite rooftop bars in town, and as well as making this list, Iris was also a highly commended Bar of the Year at this year’s Music & Nightlife Awards. There’s an excellent dining menu, live music offering a classy ambience, stunning views and more. Head along on a Sunday and catch one of our favourite musicians around, Stephon LaMar, performing with his band Cat Daddy.
Open Sun-Wed 5pm-2am; Thu 5pm-3am; Fri 1pm-3am; Sat 3pm-2am. The Oberoi Dubai, Business Bay (056 951 1442).
If you’re looking for a bite to eat to accompany a lofty vantage, head to the 72nd floor of the JW Marriott Marquis Dubai for some Latin vibes. It’s stunning, with panoramic views of Downtown Dubai.
Open daily 5.30pm-3am. JW Marriott Marquis Dubai, Business Bay (04 560 1799).
