Lock, Stock & Barrel JBR – The Walk
Monster party bar that has slotted into the JBR scene with ease
Twice the size of the Time Out Dubai award-winning original Lock, Stock & Barrel in Barsha Heights, this sprawling nightspot is a behemoth on JBR’s nightlife scene. In fact, at approximately 22,000 sq ft, it’s one of the largest bars in the city.
And even despite its enormous proportions (and warren-like layout in parts) on any given Friday afternoon you’ll find it every bit as packed to the rafters as its older sister, the ground floor transformed into an impromptu dancefloor as revellers sing along to a familiar (and brilliant) soundtrack.
The food on offer is based around a street food concept and the menu offers everything from Asian snacks to Indian bites and Mexican favourites – and portions are massive.
There are all of your usual hops, grape and mixed drink options, and speaking of drinks, fans of LSB’s two-for-one happy hour will be pleased to note that too has been transported to JBR, alongside a Tuesday ladies’ night.
The venue is also positioning itself as a live music hub, with resident bands 13Daze and Gorgeous George on rotation.
Sure, Lock, Stock & Barrel JBR – The Walk isn’t reinventing anything. What it is doing is dialling the LSB brand up to 11. And while some may loathe it, you can be certain others will absolutely love it.
Open Mon-Sun 4pm-3am; Sat-Sun 4pm-3am. Rixos Premium Dubai, JBR, The Walk (04 392 7120).
The ultimate outdoor rooftop experience with a classy vibe
This is a seriously polished and fun bar up on the roof of The Oberoi Dubai and one that is guaranteed to impress even the most discerning of patrons.
The views across Business Bay and Downtown Dubai are unrivalled and this is definitely a place you will want to take visitors to the city.
The staff are trendy with dapper outfits, yet infinitely approachable. There’s a lovely romantic outdoor area and the bar is all woods and glass and assorted greenery.
The list of speciality mixed drinks is extensive and are made with fresh ingredients by a talented roster of bar staff that show a level of craft and attention that many other bars in the city should aspire to.
Drinks are reasonably priced given the gorgeous surroundings and should you get a bit peckish during your visit you’ll find a restaurant-standard menu of varied international dishes.
There’s also a diverse live music line-up and a sophisticated ambience to the place. Whether it’s a special occasion or because you have friends and family in town, you won’t regret a drink or a bar meal here.
Iris is up there with the best of them, and more than worthy of its Highly Commended title.
Open Sun-Wed 5pm-2am; Thu 5pm-3am; Fri 1pm-3am (Brunch 1pm-5pm); Sat 3pm-2am. The Oberoi Dubai, Business Bay (056 951 1442).
An absolute titan of a karaoke bar where a great night is guaranteed
Lucky Voice is the perfect nightlife destination for those who like to have a bit of a sing-song or just watch others belting out the tunes.
The karaoke pods have over 15,000 tracks so whether you fancy yourself as a bit of a crooning Elvis, a warbling Susan Boyle or a screaming Nirvana, there’s something for everyone.
Best of all the pods are all private, so you don’t have to listen to strangers slaughtering I Will Survive on repeat – just your mates in the booth.
If karaoke isn’t really you’re thing – fear not. The normal bar area plays a selection of funky classics and there’s a good chance of seeing some energetic moves being thrown out on the dancefloor. The bar is well-stocked with hops and grape varieties, sparkling and mixed drinks.
The venue itself is quite a cavernous space, decked out minimalist-style. The lighting is super-striking with dozens of bulbs hanging from the ceiling, pulsing and changing colour. It’s strangely hypnotic and gives the bar a bit of a ’70s disco feel.
This is a party place, perfect for large groups, work nights out and celebrations. If you’re in the mood to let your hair down with a bunch of pals, Lucky Voice is as good a place as any to unleash your inner Tina Turner.
Open Sat-Thu 5pm-3am; Fri 1pm-3am. Grand Millennium Dubai, Barsha Heights (800 58259).
Set high on the 40th floor of The H Dubai, this cool, urban rooftop bar is one of the best in our eyes. There’s a enchanted forest feel to the place – lent by high walls adorned with faux foliage. It’s green, it’s moody, and along with the low lighting and pumping music it has a trendy, exclusive (yet not unwelcoming) feel.
Open daily 8pm-3am. The H Dubai, Sheikh Zayed Road (04 355 8896).
Barasti is a Dubai institution – and for good reason. The beachside bar is laid-back with lively music, dancing and events featuring massive line-ups.

Indie Restaurant & Lounge
The industrial feel starts at the solid wooden door at the entrance, with the bar’s name carved through it, and extends to the exposed ceilings and quirky lighting.
Open daily 5pm-2am. DIFC (055 455 6106).
Le Petit Belge
With modern, industrial décor, Le Petit Belge has a contemporary, clean-cut feel, while TV screens showing all manner of sports add a buzz to the place. There’s a good range of Belgian hops on offer and some excellent bar snacks.
Open Sun-Thu noon-2am; Fri-Sat noon-3am. Pullman Dubai Jumeirah Lakes Towers, Cluster T, JLT (04 242 7794).
Since opening back in October 2009, Loca has become a go-to for football and Mexican food fans alike. While many others have since opened in the city to stake a claim on the casual Latin American bar scene, few have matched this Jumeirah 1 institution’s success. Open daily noon-2am. Dubai Marine Beach Resort & Spa, Jumeirah Beach Road (04 346 1111).
