Dubai’s best indoor bars with a view

Keep your cool this summer

Dubai’s best indoor bars with a view

It’s official – summer is here. With the sweltering summer having made a heavy-handed entrance, gone are the days of al fresco sundowners – it’s time to find a new indoor spot where you can gawk at the view to your heart’s content – in icy A/C.

Here are 16 Dubai bars with even cooler views. Summer: sorted.

Above 21
Best for… Enjoying the finer things in life
This bar sits on the 13th floor of the stunning FIVE Palm Jumeirah Dubai (which even smells fancy). Although this hotel is also home to our Bar of the Year and Best Rooftop Bar The Penthouse, sometimes you need to chill out indoors. And with this one you can – while enjoying the very same view. Cast your eyes across the still waters of the Palm towards the Marina, while sipping on a speciality mixed drink, and perusing Cuban rolls, if the mood takes you.
Open Sun-Thu 2pm-2am, Fri-Sat 1pm-2am. FIVE Palm Jumeirah Dubai, Palm Jumeirah (04 455 9988).

Another Bar
Best for… Taking in the Sheikh Zayed Road views

Set on the 24th floor, this relatively-new bar’s massive windows give way to bird’s eye views over Sheikh Zayed Road, making for a busy, cosmopolitan city scape. The bar itself is cool, with slanting skylights that give a lofty feel and dramatic furnishings. If you’re looking for a bite to eat the bar snacks menu is small but eclectic, with everything from deep-fried mozzarella to chicken tikka and fish and chips. It’s not the most vibrant in town, but for a chilled-out bar with a view, you’d do worse.
Open daily noon-2am. Dusit Thani Dubai, Sheikh Zayed Road (04 343 3333).

At.mosphere Lounge
Best for… Feeling like you’re on top of the world (or potential vertigo)
How could we not include the world’s loftiest bar, sat inside, of course, the world’s tallest tower? This bar has such a magnificently superior view that it actually makes the rest of the world look kind of flat – sort of like looking out of a plane window. Despite its plush interior, you’re more likely to spend your time gawking out over the city. A super-speedy journey in the lift belies the height, so get ready for the wow-factor when you reach your destination. From the moment you step out into the reception area you’ll be blown away by the views from floor-to-ceiling windows (as you will by the prices, brace your wallets). A top one (literally) for when guests are in town.
Open daily 7am-11am, 12.30pm-3pm, 6pm-11pm. Burj Khalifa, Downtown Dubai (04 888 3828).

Bar 44
Best for… An elegant Marina outing
No surprises for guessing which floor this classy drinking spot is located on. Spoiler alert, it’s on the 44th floor of Grosvenor House in Dubai Marina. This bar has a cavernous feel to go alongside its elegant and long-established presence on the Dubai nightlife scene. Try not to spend the whole evening with your face smooshed against the glass, the view may well just encourage you to do so.
Open Fri-Wed 5.30pm-2.30am, Thu 5.30pm-3am. Grosvenor House Dubai, Dubai Marina (04 317 6000).

Gold on 27
Best for… Sipping on gold-infused drinks
This opulent, gold-laden bar housed high up in the Burj Al Arab Jumeirah recently took home the Highly Commended award for Best Mixed Drinks Bar at the Time Out Dubai Music & Nightlife Awards 2019. For both visitors and residents of Dubai, a trip to this world-famous hotel is likely to be at the top of most bucket lists and Gold on 27 is the ideal way to visit. What better an excuse than to spend the evening sipping on drinks sprinkled with edible gold than at a gold bar? It’s not cheap, but also not as eye-wateringly expensive as you might imagine, and is well worth a visit. Not only are the drinks and snacks a hit, the views out across Jumeirah from floor-to-ceiling windows are not too shabby either.
Open daily 6pm-2am. Burj Al Arab Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim (04 301 7600).

Hotel Cartagena
Best for… Lively Latin vibes
Housed in the JW Marriott Marquis Dubai, the second-tallest hotel in the world, you’ll need a head for heights and an ear for loud and lively Latin music at this one. Set on the 72nd floor, there’s a 360-degree vantage of the city, but the scenes inside are almost as mesmerising as those outside. Take your eyes off the swirling, vibrant, jungle-themed artwork and plants dangling from the ceiling and feather-clad Latino dancers to peer out at the Burj Khalifa and Downtown Dubai.
Open Sun-Thu 5.30pm-2am, Fri-Sat 1.30pm-2am. JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Dubai, Business Bay (04 560 1799).

Kris with a View
Best for… Views of old Dubai
Visited all the swish bars in new Dubai? This old-school place still excels with its unique, and picturesque views of Downtown Dubai from the northern end of Sheikh Zayed Road in Bur Dubai, with highlights to point out including the Dubai Frame. You’ll find some interesting Asian food on the menu too if you get peckish.
Open daily 6pm-1am. Park Regis Kris Kin Hotel, Bur Dubai (04 377 1184).

Best for… Soaking in the Downtown Dubai views
If you’re after sundowners while taking in views of the Burj Khalifa and The Dubai Fountain, you won’t get much better than this. This popular bar was revamped and reopened last year, and it’s just as wonderful now. Floor-to-ceiling windows allow for some of the best views in the city making NEOS a bar that really makes you appreciate the spectacular city that we live in. Prices aren’t eye-wateringly expensive either and there’s a daily happy hour from 5pm to 8pm, which offers 50 percent off both drinks and bar bites, including a number of small plates for sharing (or scoffing all to yourself while your date’s distracted by the view).
Open daily 5pm-2.30am. Address Downtown, Downtown Dubai (04 888 3444).

Best for… Media-types and a game of pool

A popular spot in Dubai Media City, this one heaves with media-types at clocking off time on a Thursday. Housed on the 43rd floor of Media One Hotel, you’ll get some stonking views out towards the Palm, a bucket load of pool tables, some cracking two-for-one deals during happy hour, while turning into a pumping club late in the night.
Open Sun-Thu 11am-3am, Fri-Sat 5pm-3am. Media One Hotel, Dubai Media City (04 443 5403).

The Observatory
Best for… Bargainous deals
It might not be the newest or the shiniest on this list, but this old-school bar has fantastic views, and it’s still one of the best vantage points from which to see the Palm. In the winter, you can watch boats zig-zagging along the coast and jumpers drifting down to Skydive Dubai. It also has a daily happy hour from 4pm until 9pm with selected drinks starting from Dhs28, which isn’t a bad way to spend an evening without breaking the bank.
Open daily noon-1am. Dubai Marriott Harbour Hotel & Suites, Dubai Marina (04 319 4000).

Up on the Tenth
Best for… A Creek-gazing session
An old-school jazz-themed lounge bar that offers up a tenth floor vantage point out over Dubai Creek. If you’re up for some chilled-out vibes to accompany your Creek-gazing session, there are few other places to be than this bar found in Deira.
Open daily 6pm-3am. Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Deira Creek, Deira (04 205 7033).

Best for… Getting your gladrags on
This classy lounge bar takes things to another level – pun fully intended. The entrance is found on the 68th floor, before you ascend another three floors to get to the 71st and 72nd floor. Vault excels at delivering some of the most awe-inspiring vistas around and it looks plush and feels exclusive – you’ll want to dress up for this one. It’s well worth a visit during happy hour, where you can watch the sun set from those expansive floor-to-ceiling windows with drinks from Dhs30 between 5pm and 7pm. Visit on a Tuesday, ladies, for three free drinks, too.
Open Sat-Thu 5pm-3am; Fri 4pm-3am. JW Marriott Marquis Dubai, Business Bay (04 550 9110).

Weslodge Saloon
Best for… Hipsters
The first thing you’ll notice as you walk into Weslodge Saloon is the view. Well, you can’t not – it’s 68 floors up, so keep your distance from the windows if you’re not too fond of heights. The Canadian export also has some pretty interesting drinks on the menu and is a bit hipster if you fancy admiring a few beards of the bushier variety, though we draw the line at ankle-grazers. The food is also decent, especially if you’re after fried chicken or the Canadian classic – poutine.
Open daily 5.30pm-2am. JW Marriott Marquis Dubai, Business Bay (04 560 1700).
