Top golf club bars and pubs in Dubai

Dubai is a famed and much envied global destination for golfing fans, with the standard of the emirate’s courses known for being among the world’s very best.

But once you’re done hitting the greens, once you’ve sunk your final putt, once you’ve shook hands with your partners and returned your golf cart to the club house, it’s time to shower up and grab a well-earned pint.

Now, we don’t base our entire decision of where to play on how good the pubs are, but these nine bars are well worth a visit after hitting the greens.

Bar: 261
Club: The Els Club

Named after the eponymous Ernie Els’ record-breaking four-day score at the 2003 Mercedes Championships, 261 is a cosy, dark bar on the inside and chilled out on the outside. Brilliant for grabbing a post-round pint, it’s also home to some cracking grub before or after swinging your way, ostensibly, to success.
Open daily 6am-11.30pm. The Els Club, Dubai Sports City (04 425 1000).

Bar: Maison Mathis
Club: Arabian Ranches

This is a lovely little spot, particularly as the sun goes down and you’re filled with the sort of triumphant feeling that only a day spent in the sun can guarantee. There’s a projector for sport, plus big screens knocking about the bar area, a non-smoking interior, and even hydroponic vertical farms where they grow their own greens. It’s one of the more eco-friendly spots around, and there’s good food and drinks to be had here.
Tue-Sun 7am-2am, Mon 7am-midnight. Arabian Ranches Golf Club (04 450 1313).

Bar: Nineteen
Club: Address Montgomerie

You can feel like a real champ when you take your place on the outdoor balcony overlooking the 18th green at this gorgeous club in Emirates Living – and if you’ve overcome the gargantuan, nightmarish 18th hole, you’ve thoroughly deserved it. Mediterranean, whitewashed vibes accompany a fresh menu, and a good selection of drinks from which to choose, too.
Open daily 12.30pm-10.30pm. Address Montgomerie, Emirates Living (04 888 3444).

Bar: QD’s
Club: Dubai’s Creek Golf & Yacht Club

Set right on the banks of Dubai Creek, if you had a particularly wayward shot off the tee you can spend your post-round pint scanning the waters for your recently-displaced ball. A long-standing outdoor oldie-but-goodie, this place never fails to please. There’s live sport, often a live DJ, plenty of food to get your hands on, a vast selection of hops and a weekday happy hour, to boot.
Open Sun-Wed 5pm-2am, Thu-Sat 5pm-3am. Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club, Deira (04 526 9011).

Bar: Qube Sports Bar
Club: The Track, Meydan Golf

Free shuffle board and a gigantic, 3D-shaped cube (appropriately) of TV screens show the latest sporting action – whether it’s golf, football or dressage, nothing is off limits here. A decent happy hour awaits, as do more free-to-play bar sports, like pool, darts and table football so you can keep the competition going long after the 18th.
Open daily noon-2am. The Track, Meydan Golf, Nad Al Sheba (04 381 3780)

Bar: Spike Bar
Club: Emirates Golf Club

Probably the biggest golf club sports bar terrace around (it’s a niche category, to be fair), this classic pub at Emirates Golf Club has got views of the Majlis Course and giant screens all over the shop so you’ll never miss what’s happening in the footie, rugby or what-have-you. There’s also a huge menu of pub grub as well as plenty of drinks to choose from, too.
Open Fri-Sat 9am-1.30am, Sun-Thu 10am-1am. Emirates Golf Club, Emirates Hills (04 417 9999).

Bar: Sports Bar
Club: Jumeirah Golf Estates

The planning committee didn’t reach too far when coming up with the name of this utterly self-descriptive spot in Jumeirah Golf Estates. For the early risers this place also does a world-class brekkie so you can properly recharge after you’ve finished your round, or fuel up before you hit the course. There are loads of screens, and a big, bright and airy feel to it, too.
Open daily 6am-midnight. Jumeirah Golf Estates (04 374 8099).

Bar: Stoke House
Club: Trump International Golf Club

Described by Time Out Dubai as a “decent addition to the gastropub scene in Dubai”, this chilled-out spot at Trump International is a decent addition to the gastropub scene in Dubai. Finish up your day’s golf, and while away the rest of the afternoon with a few frames of pool, a bit of grub, a few pints and spot on the tube.
Open daily 6.30am-11.45pm. Trump International Golf Club, DAMAC Hills (04 245 3939).

Bar: The Duck Hook
Club: Dubai Hills Golf Club by Jumeirah

Depending on whether you’ve spent the last 18 holes hacking and hooking your way around the course (like this pub’s name might suggest), you may or may not fancy spending more time socialising at the course. But this stunning golf club is home to a cracking pub, full of classic British dishes, a decent hops selection, and a lovely outdoor area to enjoy this clement weather.
Open Sat-Wed noon-midnight, Thu-Fri noon-1am. Dubai Hills Golf Club, Al Khail Road (800 666 353).
