The restaurant bar of a swanky Japanese restaurant

Although best known for its Japanese fine dining and lively Friday brunch, Morimoto Dubai is worth stopping into even if you’re not hanging around for dinner.

In the cooler weather the al fresco terrace is a must-visit spot thanks to its stellar views of Downtown Dubai and the imposing Burj Khalifa.

Staff are super-attentive and sharp, taking care of what we need before we know we even want it (including offering up blankets in chilly weather).

On our visit the venue is busy, so we pull up a seat at the bar, though there’s also a lounge area towards the back of the terrace. Indoors there’s a central bar too, should you prefer to sit inside.

The crowd is a mix of groups and couples, and although it’s a swanky spot, it’s not at all stuffy.

Drinks are not mind-blowingly expensive either, at around Dhs60 for a glass of grape, but it’s still a good idea to visit during happy hour from 6pm until 8pm – which is excellent value.

You’ll get two drinks (including inventive mixed drinks and sparkling grape) plus a snack for Dhs89. We recommend the signature mini tuna pizzas, where fresh, tasty tuna is drizzled with spicy mayo and delicately placed on on crisp cracker.

With this decent early evening deal, plus prime city views, this is a great pre-dinner spot to visit for a chilled-out yet classy drink.
