Crown & Lion

Old school British pub in Barsha Heights

Think of a british pub. What do you see? Snug booths? A darkly-lit interior?  Typical British pub grub? As soon as you step inside Byblos Hotel’s buzzing bar, that’s exactly what you’ll get – except this one is smoky.

Crown & Lion is an established pub, and it’s still packed, despite Barsha Height’s onslaught of new joints popping up. And it still stands as the go-to pub to watch the big match, have a quick pint, take part in a quiz and for a catch up with your mates.

No matter what time you arrive, it always seems to be bustling with expats or hotel guests. That’s thanks to two main reasons. First, there’s always a match on, with each of the plentiful TVs showing the footy, rugby, horse racing – you name it. For the big Premier League matches they’ll even turn off the lively music and switch it to the match.

Secondly, there’s a cracking happy hour, with pints starting from Dhs27 and grape from Dhs37. Weekdays are usually the best times to go, as the happy hour lasts from 5pm until 9pm. Also, weekdays are when they kick off live music from 8pm all the way until 1am.

Loud? Yes, and you may not be able to hear the person sitting across from you the sizeable booths. But if you’re up for some jigging and energetic tunes that showcase the best British classics, you’re in for a good night.

Head here on a Monday and you’ll get a fun pub quiz with plenty of prizes (and grub) up for grabs.

Crown & Lion still manages to muster up some spark even when it’s surrounded by brand-new places, and hasn’t changed that much either. You can’t teach an old dog new tricks, but we like this one just the way it is.
