An industrial sports bar in Business Bay

Somewhat surprisingly, Business Bay is somewhat lacking in sports bars. Yes, there’s the fantastic Bridgewater Tavern and one or two smaller players (pun fully intended), but it’s an area that’s generally lacking top places to sit back and catch the game.

Sports on 4, albeit a somewhat unimaginative name, takes the place of Sky Bar, and there’s a bit of legacy branding that slightly awkwardly makes its way into proceedings – like the intriguingly-named Sky Bar 3-Feet Long Trencher (a sharing platter for food, enough for four mates).

But it has potential. It’s gone for an industrial-meets-cluttered theme throughout, with lots of steel, rivets and quirky bar signs adorning practically every spare inch of brick.

Our main gripe is that major live sport is not being shown on our visit, with the screens in the bar blasting out less mainstream versions including indoor men’s volleyball or equestrian showing (basically a horse pageant), which is a little odd for a sports bar.

To its credit, though there are pool tables, a second, lower floor of the bar that’s a non-smoking area, and a decent daily happy hour that’ll keep the cost down until 8pm.

Buy one, get one free on house drinks, white and red grape, hops and more – and the bar bites menu has got a few incredibly moreish dishes on offer, including the potato and serrano pepper croquettes, served with a cracking Mexican dip.

Drinks aren’t too bad at the best of times, either, with bottles of hops and house shorts coming in at under Dhs40.

Service is swift and it has the potential to be a great place to catch a match, if it shows them.
