Wavehouse

Sprawling bar, restaurant, arcade and bowling alley at Atlantis The Palm

When planning a night out there are many factors to consider. Do you want to dress up? Looking for skyline views? Maybe it’s time for… a wave rider?

If you’re looking for an action-packed night out, Wavehouse is it.

The massive space in Atlantis The Palm is a one-stop shop for a casual, activity-filled night out.

It’s not remotely fancy – this is a jeans and trainers kind of spot – and that makes it appealing.

Alongside a colourful and lively four-lane bowling alley (which we absolutely recommend you try – and book a lane as soon you arrive) there’s a large upstairs area packed full of arcade games, VR games and a soft play area for the kids.

The whole family will be catered for here – there’s even a wave rider, a machine that shoots more than seven tonnes of water per second, perfect for body or knee-boarding.

There’s a separate bar area, as well as a restaurant, to refuel at too – plus expansive outside terrace with views of the wave rider and large, swinging chairs.

On our visit the restaurant is packed, but the adults-only bar area less so. But you can also have table service drinks while you bowl, which is a huge plus.

The venue itself is industrial-cool, with exposed pipes and bright murals, but while the vibe is low-key, prices aren’t quite so. Once you’ve added up drinks, food, bowling and arcade games it’s a fair whack for a night out.

Drinks are around Dhs55 for grape and pints of hops, while there’s a decent range of botted hops too. Mixed drinks will set you back around Dhs70 – while you can order fruity drinks to share for Dhs250. However, you’ll get 50 percent off selected drinks from 5pm to 7pm every day – and you can also get 50 percent off gaming credits at the same time.

Meanwhile ladies should visit on a Tuesday, where from 8pm until 1am you’ll get three free drinks, free access to the wave rider, 50 percent off bowling and Dhs100 in game credits. Gents can visit on a Saturday from noon until 1am for unlimited surfing, a full English breakfast and two bottles of hops for Dhs120.

Food is fine but unlikely to blow you away – and again isn’t cheap at around Dhs100 for a burger. The fish finger sandwich is stodgy with battered fish pieces, while the chicken panko burger is on the tough side, but is lifted by mango and avocado.

But really food isn’t essential – you’re here for the games, entertainment and fun, and in that Wavehouse scores.
