Junipers

A new library-style bar in Emirates Hills

Hidden behind a large door in the lobby of the new Vida Emirates Hills is Junipers. The hotel is very new, so if you didn’t know it was there, you could easy miss it – but that would be a shame.

The bar, as the name suggests, is based around juniper beverages. The signature drinks are based around the signs of the zodiac – using interesting ingredients including basil, frankincense and tangerine tea, and there are several using juniper drinks. All are relatively reasonably priced too, falling between Dhs45 and Dhs60.

However, we’re a little surprised to find just six types on juniper on the shorts menu.

The room is sort of styled like a library bar, but the room is a tad too harshly lit to be cosy and old fashioned. With dimmer lighting and more people the vibe would be warmer and buzzier.

However, it’s kitted out well, and décor has been carefully thought about. There are a range of low tables and sofas, and stools around a central bar.

There’s also a large terrace outside, with superb views across Emirates Golf Club, which is sure to come into its own in the winter months, too.

Head along for the daily happy hour from 6pm until 8pm where you’ll get 50 percent off drinks, including hops, grape and mixed drinks. And grab some snacks while you’re there – the roast cashews in a lime and spring onion dressing are tangy and moreish, and are a huge portion. The hummus and harissa with flatbread is also tasty to nibble on with your drink. There’s a night brunch on a Thursday, too, if you want to try more of the dishes, for Dhs325 all in.

With a decent menu and deals, Junipers has potential but it has a little way to go yet.
