Time Out Says
We’re also interested to see whether this bar will stand out from the crowd, or whether it will blur into said mass.
Set on the 24th floor, the bar’s massive windows give way to bird’s eye views over Sheikh Zayed Road, making for a busy, cosmopolitan city scape.
The room itself is cool, with slanting skylights that give a lofty feel and vibrant furnishings. The reds and blues mirror the colours coming from the busy road below.
Hanging from the ceiling are giant chandeliers with faux candles, lighting up the room – adorned with faux ivy. The greenery is a fun touch, and the whole thing feels a little like a set from Beauty and the Beast or Phantom of the Opera – it’s all very dramatic and moody. It’s also fairly clean and clinical though, which doesn’t create a cool, relaxed vibe.
On our visit the bar is fairly quiet, which is probably due to its newbie status, which also doesn’t help the atmosphere. However, the music is upbeat and so it’s not uncomfortably quiet.
Drinks aren’t outrageously priced, if not exactly a steal, with a concise menu of mixed drinks coming in at Dhs69 each. Glasses of house grape fall under Dhs50, too, while a pint while set you back Dhs52. Plus, ladies, visit on a Thursday evening from 8pm until midnight and you’ll get three free drinks to round off the working week.
If you’re looking for a bite to eat the bar snacks menu is small but eclectic, with everything from deep-fried mozzarella to chicken tikka and fish and chips. The bar sits next to the new restaurant 24th Street, too, if you happen to want some Asian street food.
The team could do with doing something about the harshly lit lobby area between the two though, to create more of a fun, nightlife vibe.
Is it just another bar? In a word, yes, but it has potential to pick up when the word gets out.
