Bar Baar

A new favourite in the place of an old classic

Time Out Says

When The Music Room closed down last year it left some pretty big shoes to fill.

The celebrated music venue was a solid Dubai institution after 12 years of providing a venue for up-and-coming artists, and when it was taken over by Bar Baar in February this year, there was a collective sharp intake of breath.

It’s fair to say that when we visited, we were nervous. But we’re happy to report that the new owners have taken those big shoes, laced them up snugly and performed a celebratory Bollywood dance.

The Indian social hub gastropub, as it pitches itself, is bustling on our visit. So much so that we struggle to get a table. We’re surprised, but have no complaints about the buzzing vibe, the snappily dressed waiters and the low-key feel of the place.

The décor is urban and industrial, with high tables, exposed lighting and some eye-catching street art, with tables lined up in front of a pretty sizeable stage where live music is played a few times a week.

Drinks are reasonable, and every Tuesday are just Dhs10 for eight hours between 7pm and 3am as part of Wholesale Night, where music is spun out by the resident DJ. We’re big fans.

The bottom line

Great times to be had in a lively venue.
