Time Out Says
And now there’s a new kid on the block boasting some serious credentials.
Barbary opened at the all-new TRYP by Wyndham hotel at the back end of last year, and its already wooing a sizeable crowd.
When you walk down the steps of its own entrance, it feels dramatic – it’s dark with bright neon signs welcoming you in, and if you enter from the hotel, you’ll only find it once you’ve snaked past the kitchen, making it feel hidden and speakeasy-like.
Inside, the cool vibes are obvious. It feels retro, with a hint of Dubai bling, coming from the huge, sparkling crystal chandelier lights. But it’s New York-cool – the kind of place you’d expect to see hipsters in their droves. And it gets busy, so don’t be fooled if you turn up post-work during the week. At the weekend, be sure to book.
Service is still coming into it’s own, as you’d expect from any new place. But staff are super-friendly and personable, offering up some top recommendations. Prices are keen, with mixed drinks from Dhs47, grape from Dhs38 and hops from Dhs39, and there’s a selection of craft options, too.
The kitchen is run by Rob Rathbone, the chef formerly of R Trader in DIFC, so you can expect good things on the menu – a stunning Cuban sandwich, plus incredibly juicy, perfectly executed burgers, et al.
This is an excellent new addition to Dubai’s bar scene.
The bottom line
Cool new hangout. Go discover it. Now.
