BFF Gastro Bar & Lounge
Time Out Says
And not just us, it would seem, as judging by the crowd on our visit the place is doing pretty well only a month or so after opening.
It’s a fairly big space, perched on one end of the huge Ibn Battuta Gate Hotel, with its own entrance from the outside. Inside it’s big and bright, the lights could do with being turned down a notch to create more of a grown-up atmosphere.
But perhaps being a grown-up is not what it’s all about here. From the childish-sounding name (it actually stands for Brews. Food. Friends.) to the sheer number of bar sports available, BFF is geared up towards making a big kid out of us all.
The deals aren’t juvenile, though, with a happy hour on all draft and other drinks running for 12 hours, from 3pm to 3am. That’s the whole time the venue is open, however, so maybe they’re just the actual prices.
Meanwhile a ladies’ night every Tuesday offers five drinks and bar bites from 8pm.
Hops fans will find much to like here, with an intriguing menu of 21 hops-based mixed drinks also available. Scottish short connoisseurs are also well looked after. Away from the drinks there’s a wide-ranging food menu offering bar classics – from wings and burgers to salads and steaks.
There are big screens for sports, a stage for live music, pool tables, dart boards, table football and more ways to amuse yourself if your friends’ conversation is found lacking.
The brilliant staff deserve a mention, too.
Anyone who’s been to Lock, Stock and Barrel will recognise what the people at BFF are trying to do – create a fun bar, with lots of entertainment and good deals.
Do we plan to be BFFs? Probably not, but we’re happy to make this bar’s acquaintance.
