Time Out Says
We arrive on a blustery winter evening – yes, even long sleeves are called for – and grab a seat on the Dubai Creek-facing terrace. The pinky-orange hues of another glorious sunset are still lingering in the sky and it’s clearly attractive enough to draw in a number of bar-goers. Nothing quite beats a day at work than ending it with a refreshing sunset drinks with panoramic views.
So far, so lovely.
And the night only improves when the daily happy hour menu is brought out. Hops, grape and signature mixed drinks start from just Dhs30. It runs 5pm to 8pm every day of the week. We punt for an expertly-made concoction and soak in the views. There are a range of bottled hops, red and white grape and two other mixed drinks on the happy hour menu.
Service comes with a smile and staff are quick to bring over a fleece blanket if required. The patio is also dotted with a mix of gas-fired heaters and roaring flames – so warmth is never too far away.
It’s a big space with a mix of cosy low-level sofas, large wooden tables and, for those who’re yearning for the summer melt fest to return, an inside dining and drinking area.
Shisha is served outside and hungry diners should take note of executive chef Mohanad Alshamali’s exciting menu and Thursday night brunch.
Drawing inspiration from his Syrian roots, he has devised a menu of traditional Middle Eastern classics with a contemporary twist. The restaurant serves food in three daily sittings: breakfast, lunch and dinner. Highlights include a lobster kibbeh, meatballs and chips cooked in duck fat. He is even taking the challenge to Japanese cooks by putting his spin on a black cod.
Just like Alshamali and the Business Bay hotel, BHAR is boldly and bravely making a conscious effort to stand out from the others in town.
And, it is doing so successfully.
