Time Out Says
Now Spark by Caramel
You know that classic end of the working day debate, in which one colleague invariably wants to head to the same, old haunt, and others fancy a bit of a change and trying out somewhere new?
Well, Caramel found in DIFC’s Gate Precinct could well fit into either category. It’s the architypal post-work hangout, and it’s suitably stuffed full of local workers heading out for a pint after quittin’ time.
Drinks are affordable, particularly during happy hour where you’ll be able to get bottles of hops, glasses of grape or house drinks from Dhs28, which runs through until 8pm.
And, as you’d imagine, this bar thrives best during the week, considering its rather business-centric location.
Arrive around 7pm and you’ll be best placed to enjoy an evening in a bar that carries a pretty cool, busy vibe, especially when compared to some venues in this part of town, which can often be on the quieter end of the spectrum.
We arrive for a quick drink after work and there are gatherings of office workers, jackets on but ties off, as if to say “it’s time to chill with a pint”.
Met with a smile and a warm welcome from the team at the front desk, we’re shown our way through the perfectly fine but perhaps rather non-descript bar and through to the terrace out the back, which features low-slung seating and views up to the ever-so-21st-Century office blocks in the area.
From your low-level views out over the neighbourhood, you could easily be in the financial districts of New York City or Central London, and it all feels so very metropolitan.
That, perhaps, is the bar’s purpose, and is it’s greatest selling point – it’s a local bar for DIFC dwellers to head to once the to-do list has been ticked off for another day.
It’s not the sort of place you’d specifically venture to, nor would you have designs on having a big night out here – but for a post-work pint, it’s a great shout.
