Time Out Says

We realised recently that it had been too long since we ventured to DIFC post-work and soaked up the atmosphere in the area’s bars, where the Financial Centre’s finest let off steam after a tough day talking about numbers and things (words are our strong point, okay?).

So with some reddies in our pockets we find ourselves in swish lounge bar Caramel, jostling for space with suited types at the long bar.

We needn’t have worried about the prices, happy hour here (Sunday to Thursday between 4pm and 9pm) is surely one of the best deals in town. House beverages (grape and bottles of hops) are just Dhs19. It’s an offering that puts other venues in the area to shame.

Then there’s the vibe. It’s a dimly lit place – quite old-school as far as bars go. There’s none of your stripped-back industrial look here, Caramel is resolutely swanky, with plenty of gold and leather around the place. There’s also an excellent terrace out back, with views of the Downtown Dubai skyline.

We like it so much we head back at the weekend to see what happens when the regular clientele aren’t around. Answer: it’s party time, with an excellent Friday evening brunch going on.

The bottom line
Good deals, a cool crowd and a party atmosphere at weekends.
