Time Out Says
Yet while tired-looking guests scoffing down their evening meal might not be the perfect set-up for a lively night out, this is where Casa Latina delivers.
During the early evenings, the loosely Latin-themed bar (think retro art and pictures of Che Guevara on the wall) is a quiet and slightly tired establishment where you’d be lucky to find more than a handful of punters on any given night.
But later on, and particularly at weekends, the DJ booth comes alive and starts blasting out everything from drum and bass to alternative and electro – with the booming sound system bringing music-lovers to the dancefloor in their droves.
Recent events include reggae nights and techno parties, all of which attract a mixed crowd with their pumping atmosphere.
You won’t find any VIP lounges here and the décor is rather simple and a little tired. However, the drinks are reasonably priced, with a pint coming in at Dhs38 or a bottle of grape at Dhs150 – and all served quickly. Even better, there’s a daily happy hour from 6pm until 8pm with bottles of hops for Dhs25.
But perhaps most importantly, it’s about the music. Customers don’t come to sip a pricey beverage – it’s all about hitting the dancefloor without a hint of pretentiousness.
