Champs Sports Bar
Time Out Says
First of all, medals should be given out to anyone who makes it and remembers the name of the hotel it’s located in: The Occidental IMPZ Dubai Conference & Events Centre Business Hotel doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue.
However, once you overcome the gargantuan task you’ll be rewarded with a supremely pleasant little sports bar.
The appeal of blokey pubs that beam a constant stream of any and every sport, have a steady menu of draft hops and bottles and a not-just-peanuts here free nut policy is that they don’t have to be lively to be successful, they don’t have to have crowds of noisy post-work crowds or pre-rave revellers in them. They’re perfect when they’re relatively quiet, you can hear every utterance from the commentator and you might even be able to strike up a conversation with the barman about his lowly life as an Oldham Athletic supporter.
And, at Champs that’s exactly what you get. Due to its slightly out of the way in location Production City, the bar is all but empty when we arrive.
However, it’s dark, with a mix of sofas and high up tables and wall-to-wall TVs beaming out the big games.
The barman is a smiling, sharply dressed Manchester United fan as it turns out, and makes pleasant conversation without being intrusive.
With more bars like Champs, we’re all the better off.
