Chelsea Arms

A welcoming pub with a friendly old-fashioned feel

Time Out Says

They say life begins at 40 – but we hope the pub reputed to be Dubai’s oldest doesn’t get any fresh ideas about updating its look as it enters its milestone year.

There is something warm and familiar about a visit to the Chelsea Arms, which first swung open its doors back in 1978.

As we make ourselves at home in the old-fashioned Deira spot we can’t help but feel that, unlike the cosmopolitan city itself, it really hasn’t changed too much since then.

The dim lighting creates an intimate feel, while the mock fireplace harks back to a rural pub where you would duck in for a pint away from the rain.

While there aren’t too many rainy days here in Dubai, there is still plenty of reason to pay a visit. There is a range of good value drinks and a surprisingly extensive food menu to dig into, while the atmosphere is welcoming and friendly.

As you would expect from the name, there is plenty of Chelsea Football Club paraphernalia on show but whoever you cheer for, you’ll get a good view of the action on the TV. Like an old friend you call upon, however long it’s been, we hope the Chelsea Arms never loses that.

The bottom line
Warm, friendly and familiar.
