Time Out Says
The bar is set in the longstanding pyramid-shaped hotel, just along from Italian restaurant Solo.
It’s a large, fairly brightly lit space with, incongrously, several TVs showing the match, though it doesn’t really have the sports bar vibe to it.
Outside there’s a spacious terrace with dim lighting and, in winter, heaters, overlooking the hotel’s gardens. Nothing’s particularly swanky and it’s not the most modern of spots, but it’s nice enough.
On our visit it’s pretty quiet, with only a handful of guests, but staff are friendly and the vibe is warm and welcoming.
We settle into a sofa inside (which are deceptively hard, we’d recommend sitting outside in good weather) and peruse the extensive drinks menu.
And we’re impressed with the selection of mixed drinks on offer, which are wide ranging using an interesting selection of ingredients.
As you’d expect it also includes the hotel chain’s world famous drink, created in 1915 at the Long Bar at Raffles Singapore.
Mixed drinks sit around the Dhs75 mark, which is fairly pricey for the area, with pints of hops and glasses of grape around Dhs45. And every day from 7pm until 9pm there’s a “social hour” where drinks start at Dhs30 for short measures and Dhs35 for grape and hops so it’s worth visiting during this time.
It’s not the most exciting of bars, but if you’re in the area and looking for an inventive mixed drink and friendly service, you’d do worse than stop in here.
