The smell of “new hotel” pervades throughout the Hilton Garden Inn, even though it’s been open for more than half a year now. That’s not a problem, of course, but it feels like the hotel, and its Garden Bar in particular, hasn’t seen much action since opening.
We visit on a quiet Saturday afternoon, hardly peak time for anywhere, so its no surprise that there are only a few of us inside. We don’t mind the peace and quiet, and the tastefully decorated bar, all earthy leather, dark wood and exposed walls, is welcome respite from the sweltering sun.
We find that the happy hour (5pm-7pm) runs on weekdays, but there is a main course and hops deal available (Dhs77). We’re not peckish so we stick to hops. The bar has a decent range and prices are slightly lower than average around the city, with most coming in at about Dhs35. We also spot a German bottle that we’ve not seen elsewhere in the city.
Screens show sport, with the volume down low, and the atmosphere is altogether quite chilled out and relaxed.
We can’t see anyone making a big trip to come here, but for locals it’s a good shout.
The bottom line
For anyone who lives nearby, this is a cosy place to stop by for a drink.
