From time to time you stumble upon a bar that leaves you pleasantly surprised. There is no fanfare to this Barsha Heights haunt and it should be praised for its lack of pretension. What you see is precisely what you get – a sports bar appealing to the post-work crowd or weekend football fans.
Once you set foot inside Good Fellas you’ll be taken aback by how deceptively large it is. The linear design lends itself nicely to the idea that this place is three bars in one – the long-tabled area by the entrance, the non-smoking “restaurant” section and the “games room” at the back.
As with most sports bars you’ll find in Dubai, or anywhere else for that matter, the walls are laden with memorabilia. In this case, football predominates, with photos and signed shirts of the “home” teams – Liverpool and Leeds – neatly framed and taking pride of place on the walls.
If you take a seat in the first section, you will have a choice of three big screens to look at, meaning you could feasibly watch a triple bill of matches at the same time.
But you needn’t be a footie fan to like this place as the Indian food served up here is cheap and very cheerful (the pakoras are especially good), while the service is swift and friendly, too.
The bottom line
Worth a look, especially if you’re a Red.
