Time Out Says
“For why?!” we hear you bellow, à la Brian Blessed.
Firstly, it’s home to Lock, Stock & Barrel JBR – The Walk, the bar that’s so enormous in both scale and popularity that it’s likely giving its older sibling in Barsha Heights an inferiority complex.
Secondly, it also houses STK, the party steakhouse sensation that was awarded Time Out Dubai’s Best Party Brunch earlier this year thanks to its riotously good fun Friday night Dare To Brunch (with a waiting list almost as long as The Walk).
And as well as being home to Dubai’s second branch of US burger joint Black Tap, it has Azure Beach Club, Luigia and all those sparkly lights going down the outside of the hotel’s façade.
There’s now one more bar to add to that expansive list – District, an industrial bar with more than a hint of gastropub about it (it boasts a swanky Mediterranean menu).
Found directly opposite LSB in the hotel’s main lobby, you have a choice to make – to the left, and LSB, you have a party bar, games, big tunes, big bands and more. To the right, you have this slightly more laid back-bar that entices you in with its warm red hues, gentle house beats, cast iron fittings, cosier surroundings and its floor-to-ceiling views out over JBR, the Arabian Gulf and Bluewaters Dubai.
Standing in the space that once held nightclub Inner City Zoo, the area is now unrecognisable, with the LED screens being replaced with massive windows, while the dancefloor and VIP booths are just a distant memory.
Lining the bar you’ll find dark leather couches, booths, mid-height tables and more to give District a stylish yet comfortable feel.
And, thanks to those new, huge windows, its “Sundowner Session” every day between 5pm and 9pm become a special spot for watching the day’s light beautifully spiral away.
And the 50 percent off already affordable drinks and nibbles makes it feel all the more worthwhile, it has to be said.
There’s also a ladies’ night every Tuesday, where you’ll get three free drinks, and live music every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
The service is welcoming, and while it’s still quiet at the moment, we have no doubt that once the word gets out there it will be heaving.
