Double Decker
An old-school British pub in Downtown Dubai
- 1
Time Out Says
There are plenty of English watering-holes for expats to get a taste of home, and while some may feel inauthentic, the longstanding Double Decker still delivers its promise of being a reliable spot for a classic British old-school vibe.
Set downstairs at the Roda Al Murooj Hotel near Downtown Dubai, Double Decker has all the makings of a quaint English summer pub – with a welcoming outdoor garden with plenty of seating and an open grill.
Inside is less cosy pub-like, but still equally British, kitted out with England-inspired signs and decorations revolving around bus stops in London (hence the name), an impressive wooden interior, large couches and two floors each with its own bar.
But it can feel a tad too spacious, making it feel emptier than it actually is – especially on the second floor.
While British pop nostalgia hits play in the background and there are many screens on which to catch the Premier League, it’s hard to find a sense of intimacy, so don’t expect an eruption of cheers when a goal is scored.
Nevertheless, the extended daily happy hour from noon til 8pm (and 4pm until 8pm on Friday) makes it a great place to have a swift one with family or a lengthy catch up friends, with bottled drinks starting at Dhs29 and pints going from Dhs38, while house grape and mixed drinks are all half price. Plus the Friday brunch is also a good chance to try it out at a decent price, starting at Dhs220.
Whether you’re after a quick drink after work, a lazy afternoon in the pub garden or just want to watch the match, you’ll be happy here.
