Time Out Says
After the massive overhaul the daytime pool spot has been transformed into a dedicated nightlife destination.
Gone is the pool, the cabanas and the lazy lounge vibe, and in its place is a fully-fledged nightclub with strobe lights, a sprawling stage and a glamorous bunch of excitable clubbers as opposed to the sunseekers of Drai’s past.
What’s remained, however, is the Las Vegas-honed swagger. On arrival at the Meydan Racecourse venue you’re greeted by an amphitheatrically arranged array of private tables and sofas to one side of the club, a low-level bar on the other, and an impressive stage and adjoining walkway through the middle.
When we visit. Drai’s is buzzing, and the live DJ provides a soundtrack to the lively crowd, who make good use of the space to show off their best moves.
Drai’s has attracted a tonne of superstar acts in the past, including Fat Joe, Busta Rhymes and Craig David and we can see why the venue would lend itself to a live performance.
As well as the aforementioned stage, there’s also an impressive sound system and a lights system that leaves us somewhat dazzled.
The al fresco element of the venue only adds to the charm and there’s an Ibiza-esque feel to the place that makes us feel as though we’re on holiday.
Bar prices, as you’d expect, aren’t cheap, but are definitely not the most expensive we’ve encountered. Drinks cost between Dhs60 and Dhs70, although women get free drinks all night every Tuesday during ladies’ night, as well as a food platter with pizza, chicken wings and the like.
We were fans of Drai’s before, but the new setup is really something else. If you’re after a big night out then Drai’s should definitely be top of your list.
