The Lucky Brunch at Lucky Voice

Lively and a whole lot of fun, a worthy winner of the 2018 Best Party Brunch title

New issue out now

If you live in Dubai and love belting out a few tunes, chances are you’ll have been to Lucky Voice. The karaoke bar and club exploded on to the city’s nightlife scene, and has become as big a hit here in Dubai as its hometown, London. Established in Soho in 2015, the bar has gone from strength to strength.

If you haven’t visited (which comes as a surprise to us seasoned karaoke-ers), the Lucky Brunch is the perfect introduction of the high-fun – and equally high decibel – karaoke venue at the Grand Millennium Dubai.

When a brunch is always packed out, and you have to book a couple of weeks in advance, you usually know you’re on to a good thing.

And that’s what you’ll get with the Lucky Brunch. Make sure you book early for all the fun that’s on offer, you’ll be disappointed if you miss it, trust us. It’s a party brunch to end all party brunches, which is why we named it Best Party Brunch at our 2018 Music & Nighlife Awards.

It’s loud, it’s lively, it’s a whole load of fun – and it’s time to bring out that inner Beyoncé. The good news is it’s a lip-sync battle – so you don’t have to have a stunning voice, just a willingness to take part and plenty of confidence.

The team move around the venue picking out likely singers to join in. Some members of our party are keener than others, however.

There’s no pressure though, having a go at the lip-syncing challenge isn’t mandatory at the Lucky Brunch so if you’d rather studiously eat a bowl of chips than show off your diva side, that’s equally fine and you won’t get hauled up onstage.

The food, as you’d expect, isn’t what you’re here for, but it’s good enough for the setting. You’ll be treated to edamame, mini sliders, tacos and other such bar snack delicacies – a perfect accompaniment to all that warbling (though we’re not sure Queen B would agree).

The sliders are a tad dry, though the mozzarella sticks are a good touch and get wolfed down quickly.

The highlight of the culinary options is the generously topped pizzas, which are gooey, delicious and as cheesy as the tunes you’ll be singing.

As the afternoon goes on, the vibe picks up and people get on to their feet and start dancing. Mixed drinks are free-flowing and the party is well underway.

Post-brunch you can use the karaoke pods for free for one hour, though they fill up quickly, so put your name down early.

If you can’t face a Friday afternoon singing session, then there’s a Jukebox Brunch on Wednesday evenings – with actual on-stage karaoke (gulp) – that’s worth trying.

Lucky Voice is fun, loud and a great place to go with mates. Book it for your next birthday and thank us later.
Dhs195 (soft drinks), Dhs295 (house beverages), Dhs350 (sparkling grape). 1pm-4pm. Grand Millennium Dubai, Barsha Heights (800 58259).

The bottom line
All of the fun on a Friday.
