Focus Bar

An oddly placed hotel sports bar

Time Out Says

Alarm bells ring when one of the staff says “it’s quite peaceful here” at a sports bar with quirky decorations of Ronaldo adorning its walls, along with ‘top tunes of 2019’ from YouTube blazing right next to the bar. We’re not heading to a sports bar for a quiet cuppa, after all.

To its credit, Focus Bar at Hyatt Place Dubai does try to make itself stand out with its artsy interior designs and buy two, get one free deals on hops, but it comes out of left field when we realise the bar is literally attached to its café counterpart – a standard all-day dining spot.

We can’t imagine cheering on a match while people are trying to eat a leisurely dinner. Not that we could anyway, as the three TVs screening sports are drowned out by the tunes, and can only be seen around the three pool tables. Don’t expect any Premier League or World Cup games either, these sports are more background noise while playing pool.

If you’re looking for a deal though, there’s a daily happy hour running from 4pm until 8pm, serving up a 15 percent discount.

Maybe in time Focus will pick up, but at the moment the only reason to visit this sports bar is if you’re staying in this Deira hotel.

Staying at the hotel and up for a game of pool? Just don’t expect a lot of matches to watch
