Time Out Says
Sat in the space that was formerly known as Story Rooftop Lounge, Hi Five sadly lacks the quirky charm its predecessor once had.
With a spacious indoor area boasting floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Palm, as well as two terrace areas, it has the potential of being a top spot – especially for a sundowner – but in its early days is let down by a lacklustre vibe.
Indoors, there’s no clear separation between the lounge and dining areas. Plus the entire venue is smoking, which is unappetising for diners.
And whether it’s a restaurant or bar is a little confusing.
House drinks are around Dhs40 to Dhs50, however, there’s a happy hour offering for Dhs25 between 5pm and 8pm. There’s also a Thursday ladies’ night from 5pm, where you’ll get three free drinks –or unlimited plus a main for Dhs99 – as well as a Friday brunch, which is Dhs355 for house drinks.
Bar snacks are decent enough, the chips served with fried rosemary and Parmesan are good – nice and crispy on the outside and fluffy inside – but the nachos aren’t worth shouting about.
There’s faint house music playing in the background and the staff are friendly and helpful, but aside from that it’s all a bit bland and uninspiring.
We can only hope that once the cooler weather arrives a new lease of life will spring from the al fresco areas, until then we’ll hold off a repeat visit.
