ICON Bar & Lounge
Time Out Says
Set across two floors in the neighbourhood’s Radisson Blu hotel, the upper portions of the pub are a popular (if particularly smoky) spot for catching sport ranging from F1 and cricket to Premier League matches. Downstairs, meanwhile, you’ll find a more relaxed, sophisticated (and non-smoking) lounge. With a great-value nightly happy hour and friendly, hard-working staff, it has no difficulty luring in nearby office workers every night of the working week.
On weekends, things are a little quieter, but changes are afoot to transform that. Its Big Ben Brunch on Fridays attracts a reasonable crowd for a modestly priced Britain-inspired session, while the revamp of its narrow outdoor terrace, now featuring a fake grass lawn and picnic benches, has been well received. Particularly so by the city’s football supporters, who turn out to watch everything from the Bundesliga to Serie A on the new outdoor screen.
If you’re peckish, go for the pizza. While the rest is perfectly serviceable, whether bowls of curly fries of bangers and mash, the margheritas (and more) come from neighbouring Italian eatery Certo, and pair perfectly with a pint and the night’s Premier League action.
If you’re not a Media City regular, this place is an increasingly convincing reason to become one.
